Our newest Spring Collection, Moonflower is ready for launch! Sweet and sultry the perfect blend of fruit and floral. Soft and delicate Moonflower inspired by the night-blooming moonflower, an oft iridescent blossom that only releases its sweet fragrance at night. Top notes of juicy pear and agave merge with soft floral and marine notes cocooned in a powdery blend of dark musk and amber.
We start with the prep. When I smell a fragrance blend I can almost immediately see the colors that accompany that blend. Moonflower was complex and beautiful. I decided to go with a light green, a dark greenish blue, a bright magenta, a sunny yellow and a creamy white-beige base.

Adventures in Soap Design
Smelling this beautiful fragrance blend, I knew that it had the capacity to trace quickly. For those not in the know, "trace" means: the thickness of the soap batter. Florals and very sweet fragrances have a tendency to trace very quickly, not giving me a lot of time for intricate designs. I also soap with an extremely low amount of water which leads to speedy trace and faster cure times. I guess I like the challenge after all of these years...
I obviously ignored my instincts and decided on a fairly complicated design. A soap technique called a drop swirl. I started with a base of white-beige and dropped the other four colors into the base, one-by-one with a total of three passes over our 30 pound slab mold. The soap bars ended up looking like a raining palette of paint drops. It came out much better than I imagined. Probably the hardest thing to do is to make the soap and not know what it looks like inside for 24 hours. Cutting the slabs, then the bars is extremely satisfying.
